with KABA-HAT Collective*
We started our process, in 2011 organizing group shows for the members of the group and as a result of these shows, it evolved into an artist group that produces collective works. e reasons for this transformation was our need to create a collective statement through the research of collective production possibilities. We decided to support and encourage each other because we believe that today’s art market pushes the artists into isolation.
*A pun that reads both as “kabahat” (fault, misdemeanor, mischief) and “Kaba Hat” (rough outline)
We think that one of the main reasons for this isolation is institutionalization in art. What we imagine is an alternative model in which the dialogue between the artists themselves and the one between the artists and the audience could take place in a more direct and sincere manner
Until this day, we, KABA HAT, tried to exist with our own resources, in spaces in which artists and audience could come together without a middleman.
Our collective production emerges against dynamics in bureaucracy (the necessity for a space to produce and exhibit, censorship, artist’s rights), urban life (urban transformation, individualization), and cultural and social mechanization.
